Charter Oak Scholar Parker Mallough, a senior at Northwood High School, has verbally committed to swim for Grinnell College class of 2023.
Mallough specializes in distance freestyle, and has developed into a very effective distance swimmer for Northwood High School. At last year's Pacific Coast League Championships he recorded a lifetime best 500 free (4:56.46), and finished off a 10:07.63 1000 free with the year round club Irvine Novaquatics.
Over the past summer, he garnered a lifetime best long course 17:28.54 1500 free at the 2018 CA Southern California Swimming Mission Viejo Summer Junior Olympics ranking in 11th at the venue.
Mallough has received multiple Charter Oak academic excellence awards through his years at Northwood High School, scholar-awards, and a Founder's Scholarship to attend Grinnell College (merit-based).

The Grinnell College Pioneers are a powerhouse program in the Midwest Conference (MWC). The Grinnell men won their fourth consecutive Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championship last season, and 16th in the last 18 years behind 2019 Coach of the Year Erin Hurley. Mallough's lifetime bests puts him just outside of A-Final scoring range for Grinnel's Head Coach Erin Hurley at the 2019 MidWest Conference DIII Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in multiple distance events, meaning a solid freshman season could have him contributing right out of the gate for the Pioneers.
Mallough will be enrolled at Grinnell College as an double-majoring in Economics and Political Science.

“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Grinnell College for the class of 2023! The moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I belonged to a team that was dedicated to pursuing excellence both in and out of the pool. Wonderful facilities, amazing coaches, and a top-notch liberal arts education all contribute to a truly unique college experience. I feel so blessed to be able to continue swimming for another four years in the sport that has given so much to me. Additionally, a big thank you to Coaches Erin Hurley and Tim Hammond for this wonderful opportunity, and to all the friends, family and coaches who have supported me along the way. Also, a special shout-out to Coach Alex Nieto for the last four amazing years, and for helping me to achieve my goals. I am looking forward to double-majoring in Economics and Political Science, and I can't wait to be a Pioneer!"” - Parker Mallough
