Wednesday, November 16, 2016 marks the first day Northwood High School seniors in a number of sports can officially sign their National Letter of Intent (NLI). This is an agreement between the college and student-athlete whereby the institution promises an athletic scholarship and the athlete promises to attend the college.
Mack Nesbit, a senior at Northwood High School has committed to swim for University North Carolina-Wilmington apart of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in the fall of 2017. Last spring, Nesbit at the 2016 CIF-Southern Division I Section Championships was a consolation finalist in the 500 Free (12th) 4:34.76, and 200 Free (17th) 1:43.04. He also led off Northwood's 400 Free Relay (5th) 47.48.
Nesbit holds Northwood High School team records in the 500 Free (4:34.71), and 400 Freestyle Relay (3:05.72) which is also a Pacific Coast League Championship record. The senior has been voted a team captain for his final season of high school competition.
Nesbit swims year round for Irvine Novaquatics. Last long course season, Nesbit was a multiple-event finalist at the 2016 CA MVN Summer JO Championships. There he picked up a 4th place finish in the 200 Free (1:59.28), and 8th in the 400 Free (4:16.10). He is one of the strongest 500 freestylers in his cohort, and stretches his range from the 50 to the 400/500. Nesbit will fill many important roles for the UNCW Seahawks, and already has times that would score points at the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
