The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team has received a verbal commitment from Amanda Hsieh. She will suit up for the Quakers in the Fall of 2019.
A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Hsieh is a senior at Northwood High School, where she is primarily a sprint freestyler and IM specialist. She placed 2nd in the 100 free (51.27), and 7tth in the 200 free (1:50.15) at the 2018 CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championships last May. She contributed to Northwood's 9th-place 400 free relay (51.26 first leg), and 21st-place 200 medley relay (24.02 free anchor).
Hsieh holds three individual records at Northwood High School in the 100 free (51.14), 200 free (1:50.15), and 200 IM (2:04.74). She also participated in both the 200 free (23.61 first leg) and 400 free (51.26 anchor) relay records.

Hsieh does her club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics. She had an excellent short course season, achieving four Winter Junior National standards. At the CA MVN Junior Olympics last August in Mission Viejo, she competed in the 50/100/200 free, and both 400/800 free relays achieving five top-8 performances which included a title win in the 100 meter free.
As a team, UPenn's program finished fourth at the 2018 Ivy League Championships Division I last season. Hsieh's lifetime-bests would have scored in the C-final for the 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, and 200 fly at the venue.
Hsieh will be enrolled at UPenn majoring in Biological Sciences.
